The Cost Efficiency of a Content Management System

Share

How Does a Content Management System Save You Time and Money?

A content management system allows you to easily update your website without having to know programming languages. The system can be integrated with your current website, or used to build a new website, to give you complete control of making updates, saving you a significant amount of time and money.

Making updates to your site without a content management system is a very inefficient process:

1. First you write the text for the pages that you want updated.

2. Then you have to write and email instructions to a programmer to make those updates.

3. Next you have to check the status of the updates and make sure they were done properly.

4. After approving the updates you then have to pay the programmer for the time spent on making the updates.

Using a content management system eliminates steps 2 through 4. All you have to do is login to your website, write your text, click publish, and the task is complete.

As you can tell from the process, updating the website yourself is actually quicker than getting a programmer to make the updates. In the same amount of time it takes you to write and email the instructions, you can make the update and post it live on the internet yourself.

The benefits of using a content management system are clear:

No more writing instructions, no more checking to see if the programmer followed your instructions, no more payments to the programmer for small website maintenance tasks.

The Step by Step Process of Using a Content Management System

After your content management system has been integrated with your website, you will receive a username, a password, and a login link to an administration system for updating your website.

First, login to the administration system where you will be given multiple options to update your website, such as editing existing pages or creating new pages.

Click on the page of your website you wish to edit and click the 'edit button. The screen will take you to a web page editor that looks and functions similar to Microsoft Word®.

Simply type in your text and click a button that says 'publish and your web page is automatically updated in seconds.

You can literally update a page of your website in less than a minute!

Short Learning Curve with an Immediate Return on Your Investment

It takes the average person approximately 15 to 30 minutes to learn the basics of creating and editing content in our CMS. This means that for an investment of a little time, you can save the hours of time that it takes to write instructions to a programmer and supervise the quality of the programmer's updates.

Stay Current and Stay Productive

If you’re like most small businesses, you rely on your tools (meaning your computer and software). But, are your tools outdated? If so, you may not be as productive as you should be. Even worse, your work may be incompatible with your client’s equipment.

Here are six technology areas of your business, according to Lever.com, that you should check regularly to make sure that they are up to date.

    1. "Internet connection. Twelve years ago dial-up Internet connections were common. But, if you’re using a dial-up connection today, chances are that you can’t access much of today’s online resources. Forget about downloading large files.
    2. Computer hardware. Not only is computer hardware getting faster, it’s also getting smaller and more energy efficient. If your hardware isn’t up to date you won’t be able to use some of the most current software packages. Besides, this stuff wears out.
    3. Software tools. Software manufacturers update their software for a reason. Not only do software updates contain new features, they often fix old problems. To get the most from your software tools be sure to keep them up to date.
    4. Social media tools. The popularity of social media tools changes over the years. While Twitter and Facebook may be the hot online social tools for today, tomorrow the popular tools may be different. If your clients change social media tools so should you.
    5. Mobile computing devices. These popular devices are more than just a status symbol. They offer you a new and better way to communicate with clients. Plus, they give you the flexibility to leave your office without worrying about getting behind in your work.
    6. Website design. Does your website scream 1990s? An outdated website can reflect poorly on your business. Remember, your website is often the first thing a prospective client sees. Be sure to leave a good impression."

In business, there is an old saying: "Treat each client as if they are your only client and they will bring you more." Giving your clients your full and undivided attention as you work with them is definitely one of the best ways to keep them loyal. I was in one of those giant hardware stores recently and I noticed something. The employees of the store were actively attempting to find customers to help. This is different because in years passed this same big store's employees were ghosts. You couldn't find help in one of those places if you tried. But something changed. What was it? How could a company go from no support in the aisles to customers being asked ten times if they needed help. What could possibly have made them switch? I have come to the conclusion that the answer is two fold. First, the economy tanked and second the competition got with the program. Let me explain what I mean by both and it will be very clear how you can use these tactics to help with you business.

The Economy Plunged

The large company I was speaking about was Lowes.  They were in such a great situation before the housing market fell off that they really didn't need to help every person in the place.  They we all busy trying to handle the commercial orders that were being called in at record rates.  But then the market lost its momentum and life as they knew it was gone within months.  Commercial companies that had been spending thousands of dollars a month with them simply went out of business. Gone, vanished, nada.  So now Lowes either has to lay a ton of employees off or find revenue the old fashion way, by earning it.

Competiton got tough

Not only was the market falling but the other players were beginning to play hard ball.  Let's look at one simple example that will give you pause and hopefully you will realize just how powerful marketing is.  In 2010, a small sized company that most big boys had forgotten about woke up and got with the program.  If you watch much television at all you know that ACE Hardware has been advertising like crazy about getting into their store and getting the stuff you need to do the job quickly.  This is smart marketing because it simply attacks the big boys where there was an issue.  When you went to a Lowes you were never able to get into and get out of them quickly.  The second area of this marketing is ACE is saying that you don't have to go there and waste your time because we have what you need to get the job done.  This Two fold advertising is genious and hits the big boys right where it hurts>>In there pocket book.

Ace Company Earnings:"For the quarter, the company reported total revenues of $1.021 billion compared with $1.016 billion a year ago. Net income attributable to the company was $34.6 million, an increase of $5.8 million or 20.0%, compared to $28.8 million in 2010."

Lowe ' s Companies Earnings: Net income for Lowe ' s Companies, Inc. fell to $830 million (68 cents per share) vs. $832 million (58 cents per share) a year earlier. This is a decline of 0.2% from the year earlier quarter.

Marketing matters! The easy way to build your business and get your name out there to the masses is to create a brand for your company.  Start with a logo and grow your company with  honesty and integrity.  Don't let the competition get ahead of you because if they do, you might not recover.  Let us at Studio Blue Creative help you grow your business.  We market through email, video for commercials and on the web through your new website.  Check out our web design portfolio and contact us today to get started. It's our job to frame your company in the best possible light to make you look good and, therefore, to grow your business. RWD for Your Business Website

Share

responsive website design layoutsResponsive Web Design (RWD), in a nutshell, takes the costly and time-consuming task of creating several different versions of a website -- mobile, desktop, tablet -- and throws it out the window. It allows you to create one website that is compatible with any and every digital web device.

Not only is Responsive Design affordable and easy to maintain, it has several SEO benefits that traditional websites do not have. Here are some reasons RWD’s marketing benefits are reason enough to make the switch, and why Studio Blue Creative believes it to be important for your business:

1. Keeps your content consistent across several different sites

With a Responsive Web Design, you don’t have to worry about updating several different versions of a website in order to keep the mobile, tablet and desktop versions consistent. Update one, update all. This increases the value of your site to visitors, and in turn, the search engines.

2. Prevents tag issues and duplicate content penalties

RWD takes three sites and makes them one site. No longer will you need to place canonical tags on pages to prevent duplicate content penalties across your mobile and desktop versions. It streamlines your web design efforts and kills three birds with one stone.

3. Compiles all inbound links to one location

When a person searching on a mobile device plugs a URL into a mobile search engine, the desktop URL is often redirected to a mobile-specific URL. Inbound links (links to your domain) are seen as votes for your site by the search engines. The more inbound links your site has, the higher it will rank for various keywords related to said links.
The problem, however, is that mobile sites receive hardly any of the “link juice” earned by these inbound links because they have different URLs (and are accessed through redirects), and it results in lower mobile rankings. An RWD site fortunately has the same URL across all devices, which ensures that mobile, tablet and desktop rankings are all on the up and up.
