Is this just link-building under a different name?
No. Link-building is about Google’s ranking algorithm. AEO authority building is about LLM training signals — entity definitions, knowledge graph entries, attributed mentions. The overlap is about 20% by tactic. The goal is different.
How long does authority take to build?
Some signals (Wikidata entries, schema fixes, database listings) show up in AI answers within 30-90 days. Reference-web building compounds over 6-12 months. Brand entity recognition typically takes 3-6 months of consistent work.
Will this hurt my Google rankings?
No — most of the signals overlap. Stronger entity definitions, better schema, and more reference mentions help both rankings and AI citations. Nothing we do creates risk on the Google side.
